It started with two photographs. Not sourced from within the studio's usual references but pulled from outside it — a silhouette that began in Korea and has since made its way into fashion globally, India included, one SATYA hadn't approached from a pattern maker's eye before. The instinct wasn't to copy what the photographs showed. It was to understand why the silhouette worked and then build toward it from scratch.
The waistcoat told the same story. Rather than treating the men's version as the women's design scaled up, it was rebuilt on its own terms — a shawl collar, a double-breasted closure, a more structured silhouette altogether. Two garments answering the same brief, arriving at two different conclusions.
Then came the part that separates a sketch from a garment. The reference silhouette was studied first, on its own, before a single line was drawn to fit a real body. From there, the basic trouser structure was drafted directly from measurement — waist, hip, crotch depth, thigh, inseam, outseam, and bottom — marked onto pattern paper one at a time. The front and back were never treated as mirror halves of the same shape. They were drafted separately, because the crotch and waist curve differently front to back, a distinction a size chart has no way of making, since it only ever offers one number per measurement, never two different curves for the same body. Only once that structure held did the design details get layered in — the wide leg, the front pleat, the pocket placement, the waistband — followed last of all by seam allowance, added only once everything underneath it was already settled. This is pattern drafting, the mathematics underneath the design, and it's the reason a bespoke garment can do something a retail one structurally cannot: correct for a body's actual proportions before a single cut is made, rather than trying to force a fix onto a finished garment afterward. Alteration works within what a pattern already allows. It cannot rebuild the pattern itself. That difference is exactly where an oversized or wide-leg silhouette tends to go wrong off the rack, and exactly where bespoke construction starts to earn its keep.
Before this reaches a customer, it's being tested on the studio's own designers first — their own measurements, their own bodies, worn and assessed before anyone else sees it. Not a finished collection announced to the world, but a trend genuinely being worked through, under the Creative Director's guidance, the way SATYA works through everything else: slowly, honestly, and in-house.
What comes out the other side won't be a copy of a photograph, and it won't be sized off a chart. It will be built for one person, the way bespoke always has been — just aimed, this time, at a silhouette everyone else is trying to sell off the shelf.
