Kusam Thakur arrived at SATYA already shaped for it — by upbringing, by instinct, by the kind of knowledge that does not come from a classroom but from growing up inside a world where craft, occasion, and standard were the language of everyday life. An MBA in Finance from Punjab University — a topper. Years in the commercial world that taught her how a business breathes, how money moves, how people and processes work at scale. The commercial intelligence and the craft inheritance arrived together. That combination is rare. It is what SATYA is built on.
There is a moment in every significant story where the direction changes. For SATYA, that moment was a conversation between a daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law. A woman of vision, of patience, and of uncompromising standard. She wanted to create a legacy — something that would stand for everyone who is here today and for all who come after. SATYA began not with a launch event but with a summer and a conviction.
Kusam. Her initial team. Business cards. Door to door. On foot. In the heat of a New Chandigarh summer. No reputation yet. No guarantee of a single order. The customers around her had their own tailors in Chandigarh — fifteen kilometres away, familiar, comfortable, long established. There was no obvious reason to change. What followed was toil. Patience. The quiet, absolute refusal to read stillness as a verdict. Kusam understood from the beginning that the work itself would have to do the convincing — and that when the first order came, it would have to speak loudly enough for many more to follow. The first skilled artisan she brought on board was a master of bespoke. He is still her captain on bespoke today. That continuity — present from the very first order, still present in every piece that leaves the studio — says everything about the standard Kusam set at the beginning and has held without exception since. That first piece set the tone for everything that followed. The standard has never been lowered. It has only been surpassed — piece by piece, season by season, without announcement and without compromise.

Viscose organza printed with pigment inks and elevated with appliqué and iridescent seed beads. Pure mul mal carrying a digital block print vocabulary with seed pearl embellishment. Khadi cotton with hand shibori dye paired with lycra blend crepe. Ash grey silk with wine aari work and gota patti. Each fabric choice is correct for what the design asks of it. That is not obvious. That is material literacy — the kind that comes from decades of immersion, not from a reference library.
